If you’re a fan of vodka, you’ve already come to enjoy its smoothness and versatility in creating a wide variety of cocktails. However, besides its intoxicating pleasures, did you know there are many other uses for vodka? Vodka is a pretty handy substance to have around.

1. To remove a bandage painlessly, saturate the bandage with vodka. The solvent dissolves adhesive.

2. To clean the caulking around bathtubs and showers, instead of using toxic chemicals, fill a spray bottle with vodka to kill mold and mildew and knock out soap scum. On caulk and grout, spray moldy areas and let sit for 30 minutes. Scrub area with an old toothbrush, tile/grout brush or nylon scouring-pad. Rinse thoroughly. For bathroom tiles, spray vodka and let sit for 5-10 minutes, and then wash clean.

3. Clean jewelry. Measure a quarter-cup of vodka in a shallow drinking glass or bowl. Drop in jewelry and let soak for 5-10 minutes. Rinse and dry. (Tip: Do NOT clean pearls, opals and other porous stones via this method.)

4. To clean lipstick from clothing, rub the stain with vodka, and then throw into your regular wash.

5. For ink and grass stains, dip a clean cloth in vodka and rub spot. Rinse thoroughly.

6. To clean your eyeglasses, simply wipe the lenses with a soft, clean cloth dampened with vodka. The alcohol in the vodka cleans the glass and kills germs.

7. Use vodka as an adhesive remover. Remove the glue left behind by bumper stickers and price labels. Rub the glue with a soft, clean cloth soaked with vodka

8. Prolong the life of razors by filling a cup with vodka and letting your safety razor blade soak in the alcohol after shaving. The vodka disinfects the blade and prevents rusting.

9. Spray vodka on vomit stains, scrub with a brush, and then blot dry.

10. Using a cotton ball, apply vodka to your face as an astringent to cleanse the skin and tighten pores.

11. Add a jigger of vodka to a 12-ounce bottle of shampoo. The alcohol cleanses the scalp, removes toxins from hair, and stimulates the growth of healthy hair.

12. Use vodka as an all-natural pesticide. Fill a trigger-spray bottle and spray bees or wasps to kill them. Also use it as a pesticide on plant lice, aphids and tiny soft-bodied insects that suck the nutrient-rich sap from the stems of plants. To keep aphids off of plants add four cups water, four teaspoons of dishwashing liquid and four teaspoons vodka in a large spray bottle. Shake well and spray areas where you spot infestations.

13. Use vodka to eliminate odors. Vodka eradicates foul stenches—and doesn’t leave a scent when it dries. For an odorless air freshener, mix one part vodka with three parts water in a small spray bottle. Spray area and let dry.

14. Use vodka to preserve fresh flowers. Plants all produce ethylene, a ripening gas that promotes maturation. Vodka stunts ethylene production, thereby helping flowers stay wilt-free longer. To keep store-bought flowers fresh, snip an inch off of each stem, add two teaspoons of vodka and one teaspoon sugar. Stir well and repeat this process every few days.

15. Use vodka as a chemical-free weed killer. With help from the sun’s heat, the alcohol content in vodka destroys unwanted broad-leaf weeds—such as dandelions, chickweed and wild onion—by breaking down their waxy-cuticle coverings. This action dehydrates and dries plants out. Remove weeds by filling a spray bottle with an ounce of vodka, several drops of liquid dish soap, and two cups of water. On a sunny day, spray weeds with the solution until dripping wet. (Tip: Direct sunlight is needed for this technique to work, as weeds in the shade won’t dry out.)

16. Pour one-half cup vodka and one-half cup water in a freezer bag and freeze for a slushy, refresh-able ice pack for aches, pain or black eyes.

17. Fill a clean jar with freshly packed lavender flowers, fill the jar with vodka, seal the lid tightly and set in the sun for three days. Strain liquid through a coffee filter, then apply the tincture to aches and pains.

18. Make your own mouthwash by mixing nine tablespoons powered cinnamon with one cup vodka. Seal in an airtight container for two weeks. Strain through a coffee filter then mix with warm water and rinse your mouth. Don’t swallow.

19. To relieve a fever, use a washcloth to rub vodka on your chest and back as a liniment.

20. To cure foot odor, wash your feet with vodka.

21. Vodka will disinfect and alleviate a jellyfish sting.

22. Eliminate swimmer’s ear. If you don’t have rubbing alcohol, fill an ear dropper with vodka, and squeeze it into the affected ear, then let it drain out

23. Using a q-tip, apply vodka to a cold sore to help it dry out.

24. If a blister opens, pour vodka over the raw skin as a local anesthetic that also disinfects the exposed dermis.

25. To treat dandruff, mix one cup vodka with two teaspoons crushed rosemary, let sit for two days, strain through a coffee filter and massage into your scalp and let dry.

26. To treat an earache put a few drops of vodka in your ear. Let set for a few minutes. Then drain. The vodka will kill the bacteria that are causing pain in your ear.

27. Pour vodka over an area affected with poison ivy to remove the poison oil from your skin.

28. Soothe a sore throat. Add a tablespoon of vodka to glass of warm water and gargle. The alcohol helps numb the sore throat.

29. Swish a shot of vodka over an aching tooth Allow your gums to absorb some of the alcohol to numb the pain.

30. If all else fails, just turn the bottle up and drink it, nothing will matter anymore anyway!
