I don’t think that there are any of you that read my blog that are ignorant about the extreme value of setting goals. Many of us read books or attended seminars on goal setting. Many tried this goal setting thing for a while and then gradually slowed down. Other in turn never even started setting goals. The main reason why of us avoid goal setting is because we are afraid that we might fail or fall short of our expectations. We worry what others may say or do when they notice that we failed or gave up on our dreams and desires. Please take another look at the chart and become acutely aware of the source of your fears and anxieties. It is your false self that is the real coward here. Your false self is obsessed about what other many say or do or how you might be perceived by family and friends. It is easy to know what to do. It is however a totally different story when you KNOW what to do and you UNDERSTAND deep inside that it is vital that you must stop drifting through life like a leaf swept along by a river. You yearn for love, acceptance, recognition, more money, status or success, but neglect the most vital tool available to you. You are your own worst enemy my friend. The false self do not have any hold over you. Your false self is nothing more than a cluster of perceptions in your head. You gave this culprit the power to run your life a long time ago. You gave your false self the power because you noticed that everybody else that worked with you while you were still young also handed over their passion and power to this useless imaginary entity in your head. It is imperative that you change your knowledge about the importance of purpose into understanding. You are like a person that got lost in a desert. You crawl through the hot boiling sand desperately looking for help and water. Look down my friend.
.
You have a bottle of water on your belt. All you need to do is to grasp (understand) that this container holds what you need to survive. Stop looking out there for your source of power. Your perfect self is ready to assist you if you are brave enough to detach from the false self that is currently running your show. Knowledge not acted on is useless. It is only when knowledge is applied diligently that huge changes rush into your life. Your false self is a passive coward while your perfect indestructible self will never let you down.
If you often lay awake, unable to put your mind to rest while you’re tossing and turning, you’re going to love what you’re about to read, because I’m about to share with you one of the most powerful methods for quickly shutting off your mind, and drifting off to sleep.
As you may already know, your mind must be in the Alpha brain-wave stage to fall asleep. This is the stage your mind enters you’re still conscious, but your body and begin to relax. It enables your more rampant and conscious mind to turn off as you enter the realm of sleep.
We all know how it feels… when you’re lying awake in bed trying to fall asleep, it seems like your mind is running on hyper-speed. It’s almost like you’re thinking 10 times faster than when you’re just normally awake and alert. In fact, if you experience this often, I can tell you for a fact that your mind IS working harder than it is when you’re not trying to fall asleep, and there is a very good reason for it, here’s why this happens…
The law of momentum is everywhere in life, in physics, with your body, and most importantly, with your “thoughts.” You see, your thinking is very predictable, it all works on the law of focus and momentum. Your mind is like a big ball of potential thinking energy, just waiting for you to give it a direction to think wildly into…
It awaits and responds your every command. It’s an exceptional tool. Except, most of us aren’t very experienced at “controlling” this amazing tool. In fact, a lot people aren’t even aware that they can control it! And this is where sleep problems come in.
Imagine your mind like a giant overflowing lake that’s just waiting for an outlet to pour into… Slowly, when it finds an outlet, it begins with a trickle of water. That trickle turns into a stream. Then, that stream turns into a small river. Pretty soon, the small river is a giant unstoppable waterfall. Your thoughts work in the same way when you’re “trying” to fall asleep.
For example, you’re laying in bed, frustrated, forcing your mind to not think. “I just want to get some sleep! Stop thinking. Okay, starting now… I won’t think anymore. No think… nothing. My life is nothing… If only I would finally get motivated in my job maybe I would finally create the income to start traveling instead of dealing with these problems. Problems, how can I… Ahh, I’m thinking again! Stop!”
You get even more frustrated, and repeat the process over again in a few minutes. So how do you stop it? It’s easy, you see, you can easily control your thinking, except most people aren’t aware of the tools necessary! The good news is, I’m about to give you the 3 step handbook to controlling your mind. Here are the 3 universal steps that will enable you to not only stop thinking, you’ll also be able to lower your brain-waves into the alpha brain-state, which will quickly let you enter sleep…
The 3-Step Process for Controlling Your Mind
Step 1: Awareness
The first step to changing anything is becoming aware that it’s happening, especially if it’s your mind. Pretend your mind is racing, and you finally realize that you’re thinking… Most people at this stage get extremely frustrated and “try” to force the mind into submission. It doesn’t work! Why? Because, what you focus on expands. The more frustrated you get, the more you’re focusing on frustration, so you’ll get even MORE frustration, and more thinking… on and on!
So the first step, is to simply become “aware” of the fact that you’re thinking. Nothing more. When you notice that you’re thinking, smile to yourself, and say, “I just noticed myself thinking… Interesting…”
Now notice what happens inside of you when you do this… something VERY profound. If “I” just noticed “myself” thinking, perhaps there are really two completely separate identities running your life? There is the “I” and there is the “self.”
The “I”, is the real you, the higher being, the “I” behind the mind, that runs the show, the heart, the soul, the true conscious being, the choice maker.
The “self” is the mind. If left to run the show, will run in endless circles until the edge of insanity.
The moment you do this, the moment you become “Aware” – you are no longer a slave to your mind. You have won. After you become aware… do nothing, just lay there for 3 seconds and notice how it feels to be present in who you really are, not the mind, but you, the “I” – there is a great feeling of peace behind that presence in the “I.” Why? Because when you are aware like this, you’re aware of the power of your choice making. You now have the power of choice.
Step 2: Relaxed Focus
“What you focus on expands.” Now that you have become aware of your thinking. All you have to do is “direct” your mind into a place that will bring you into a deep, deep place of relaxation. Think about it, if before your mind will relentlessly race into any direction you give it, why not pick a direction that will give you peace and restful sleep?
But, most people don’t know what that direction really is. It’s really easy. If you focus on anything your body does or feels subconsciously, you will begin to become more and more realized. For example your breathing, the feeling of the pillow on your head, the sounds of nature outside (unless you live in the city), the warmth of your body. These are all things that happen, yet your conscious mind doesn’t think about them.
As you know, “What you focus on, expands”… So what would happen if you focused on something that is happening in your “subconscious”? That’s right, your conscious thinking would diminish, and your subconscious mind would begin to take over the entire process of you falling asleep! It really is that simple, and it works every-time.
The easiest one, is your breathing. And I promise you if you just try this tonight, you will be shocked when you wake up in the morning: “Wow! It worked!”
Step 3: Repetition
As I said, the easiest one to focus on is your breathing. In the beginning, you’ll find this easier said than done. Let me walk you through it.
Begin by taking your focus onto your breathing. Take a deep breath in. Hold it for a short while, and slowly exhale…
Count “1″
Breathe in again… hold it shortly, exhale slowly, and count…
“2″
Why count? Because I guarantee you, in the very beginning, you may find it challenging to hold your focus. In fact, you’ll be surprised as you may not even make it to “5″ the first time. This is because your conscious ever-thinking mind will butt in and interrupt. You may randomly go off into a barrage of thoughts again. If this happens, and it very well may, what do you do?
Simply become aware, and begin focusing on your breathing again. Guess what happens? As you become aware, 2 or 3 times… your mind will give up. I guarantee you, beyond the shadow of a doubt, when you get to “10″ or “15″ breaths you will feel a wave of relaxation in your body. This is the silent “click” as your mind shifts from the high frequency Beta brain-waves into Alpha brain-waves. Your subconscious mind will do the rest!

Everyday you make a thousand choices. You choose what to wear, where to go, who to meet, what to eat and what to do. MOST IMPORTANT OF ALL, YOU decide WHAT TO THINK. One thing is sure and that is that your day will not be better than your thoughts. ...................
Just close your eyes for a moment and see if you can visualise this open toolbox and if you can see the hundreds of tools that are neatly placed in this toolbox. Now look if you can see the maker’s name on these tools. The creator of these tools (thoughts and perceptions) is you. You created thousands of thoughts and perceptions (tools) about everything since your childhood. ..................
When confronted with any situation or problem you reach into this toolbox and take out what you think the most appropriate tool would be and then attempt to fix the problem. It is estimated that your mind thinks at least 2,500 thoughts an hour. Every thought that you think is a tool (perception) that you have that you imagine would work best under specific circumstances. This thought process continues day and night and will do so for the rest of your life. .....................................
I am convinced that we think ourselves to a standstill. We never stop playing with these tools in our toolbox and can hardly ever really relax for a while. If we are not faced with a problem or task that needs completion we still continue to take out these tools and mentally rehears and contemplate how we will use them should something that we fear become a reality. ............................
We are forever thinking and scheming and never become still and tranquil inside. Our bodies might seem relaxed, but deep inside our heads this thought process continues churning around. What I am most worried about is that most of the tools that you have in your toolbox are very old and outdated. .......................
Many of the opportunities, problems and obstructions that you face daily cannot be repaired while you are using old and outdated tools. If you take a modern mechanic’s toolbox and you place the toolbox of a mechanic of fifty years ago next to it you will find that there are major discrepancies. When you are confronted with something that needs repair and you do not have the right tool for the task at hand it can be very frustrating. We usually improvise and try using some other tools and hope that it will also get the job done. ........................
When you are faced with a problem you need to select the right tool for the task at hand. If you do not have the tool in your toolbox it can complicate your life. What most people seem to ignore is that it is sometimes better not to reach for your toolbox when faced with a problem. Sometimes you need time to pass or need to leave the problem with its rightful owner. How well you use your tools is usually reflected in the world you see around you. What would you do if you were faced with any or all of the following? .........................
You get a flat tire on your way to an important customer or meeting. You can fall apart, develop a migraine and think that life is against you or you can take out the right tools (patience and reality) and take care of the problem in a relaxed manner. ........................
You have been working on the computer for hours and suddenly lose all your work. You can drop dead with a heart attack; think that God hates you or you can take out the right tool (sanity and reality) and begin over and this time remember to make a backup of your work. ....................
A lover or wife possibly cheated on you. You can go crazy and get an assassin to take out the potential threat to your relationship, think that you are a failure or you can take out the right tool (no fear of loss) and get on with your life. .......................
When you have the right tools in your toolbox it makes life a lot easier. The choices we make are vital in our lives. The more quality choices we make during any given day the higher the probability of success and peace of mind. ................
I suggest that you equip your toolbox with the best tools you can lay your hands on. It is important to upgrade if you discover that one of your tools are outdated or that a more modern version is available. How would you react if your TV packed up and a technician that obviously knows very little about electronics arrived at your house with only a sledgehammer and a few other primitive tools in his toolbox? I am sure that you will send him away and find someone better qualified and equipped for the task. .....................
You might sometimes be like this incompetent and poorly equipped technician indicated above if you do not often update your tools (thoughts) in your toolbox. You can also have all the right tools in your toolbox and never use them because you are afraid that you might make a mistake. ..................
You must remember that happiness and success is always just one thought (tool) away. You should remember when you find it difficult to cope with something that one new tool (thought) could change your life. One fresh thought and one new idea can change your life from pain and suffering to success and peace of mind. ........................
You are today what you were programmed with yesterday. The choices that you make on a moment-to-moment basis decide your fate and future. You can never feel or perform better than the ongoing thoughts and feelings that you allow to occupy your mind! .......................
The mistake we make is that most of us live our lives on a reactive basis. We start and complete our day in a reactive state of being. Something comes to our attention via our five senses or via a thought in our mind. We automatically slip into the “role” that we created for ourselves many moons ago. We act, react and experience the same feelings and emotions that we embedded with our scrip at its inception. We do exactly the same when new stimuli push the previous “drama” off the stage in our minds. We sustain this reactive mode of thinking until we finally go to bed at night. Most of our days are made up of a tapestry of “roles” that we played in our own colorful way. It is important to understand that nothing is going to change until we do something different. We cannot repeat the same old recipes and expect a different outcome. ....................
You can use the “Portable Life Skills Wisdom” book to develop a range of appropriate scripts that you can use when you are faced with a problem or project that need your attention. You will if you apply the scripts in this book find that you no longer run your life on a reactive basis. The new scripts will help you to live your life in the moment. You will become more realistic. You will treat each event on its own merit. How do you do this? ......................
