As parents, we all wonder at times what is the best way to motivate our children. We should not always be praising them all of the time and it is not a good idea to punish them at all during the times when we are trying to get them more motivated . This would actually be counter-protective to the process. Motivation is really an important part of your child’s inner being and betterment and it is up to the parents to see that this is accomplished.

When your child does something that is pleasing, it is very important to communicate with them and admire them for it. Let them know that you appreciate it and show your gratitude to them. If you show admiration to your child whenever they do admiring things, this will be a large step in helping them to get motivated. Don’t just tell your child that they have done a good or great job. Take the time to tell them why you think they have done a good job and express your feelings about their work. This will make you part of what they have accomplished and it will bring the two of you closer together and your child will think of you as part of the experience.
It is not an easy task to motivate a child , but this must be done to ensure that they will have a bright future . When you receive any type of help from your child, be grateful and most of all, be thankful for it. Make sue to listen carefully when they are telling you what they have learned at school or events that took place that day as this will be their motivating reward. You also need to make them feel like they are one of the important members of the family. This will give them an emotional high and will give them confidence to build motivation as they will feel like they are a value to the family. If you are able to accomplish this, they will feel better about themselves and this will be a real morale booster for them.
Another thing that you need to do while trying to motivate your child is to not treat them like a little kid. Treat them the same as you would treat your neighbor or coworker. Do not try to reward them with silly things such as stars or stickers for doing household chores. Praise them in an adult manner for what they have done. If they have cleaned up the garage for you, tell them what a great job they have done whenever you pass by because children are very sensitive and they will be able to tell whether you are being sincere or not and this is the best way to get a response from them.
I know what you are probably thinking. Can this help without giving your child some sort of reward for their work? You have to understand that this is their home as well as yours and this will give them a feeling of responsibility and will help them to get motivated . If they stray in the other direction, have a sit down with them and get them back on track . Explain to them that life is not always about getting rewarded for the things we do and this will help us to build ourselves a strong foundation to live a strong and respected life.
