When you arrived on this plane you were already loaded with some software. You have a unique combination of your father and mother’s personalities that is embedded in your DNA. You also have your own “personality” that you developed during previous incarnations. You developed certain character traits during previous incarnations that are unique to you. You project who you “think you are” to everyone that come into your space. You are also exposed to a wide range of perceptions via your parents, the rest of the family, teachers and preachers. All this data is also embedded in your DNA.
Your body have a range of energy receptacles and transmission ports that is spread throughout your body. There is energy flowing through your system all the time. You thus have a unique frequency code that is broadcasted outside your body in the form of an aura. The collective energy that drives your body forms a shield or filter outside your body. There are some gifted individuals that can see this energy field. This energy “bubble” that encases your body contains all the data (previous incarnations, parent’s DNA plus new conditioning that took place). Most people then experience life through this shield and act out the perceptions embedded in this field. Many of us then concluded that we are our history and our personality. We then “spontaneously” and automatically slip into the many roles that we stored in this field and act and react according to the scripts we gathered (often over many lifetimes). This is how we get stuck in the same old habitual reaction patterns. This is also the reason why many of us endlessly duplicate our actions and reactions. Very few of us question the various roles that we play on the stage of life.
Actors take their make-up and characters off when they leave the stage. We in turn tend to stay in character. Very few of us understand that our character is nothing more than a range of roles that we are playing on the stage of life. We think we are the character in all the stories that we drag with us from early childhood. We become mad, sad, and aggressive or cue. We sulk and we fight, we dance and jump with joy or fall into a deep depression when specific emotions are triggered. The triggers in our life can be our thoughts, but it can also be something we detect via our five senses. I hope you notice from the above that we often remain in our sometimes silly little roles while the days, weeks and often a lifetime slip away.
It is only those that wake up and grasp the above that escape from this perpetual theatre. Only those that understand that they can create new and more effective roles for themselves can escape the often deadly and endless cycles that they live and die in. No growth or wisdom can penetrate the energy field that I mentioned earlier. No modifications can be made to our perceived perceptions without a concerted effort from our side. We must change and modify the recipes that we use or endlessly confront the same outcomes we achieve historically.
How do you modify the software in your head? You do this by finding a comfortable chair and where you can close your eyes and for a short period of time can re-write the scripts that fall short of your expectations. Just relax and close your eyes. First look at yourself in your old role. Decide what you are not happy with. Don’t be critical and avoid going on a guilt trip. Become an impartial observer. Simply observe your performances and notice the things you do and say that often sabotage you success and happiness.
Now visualise yourself under the same circumstances acting and reacting in a manner that will make you happy and produce the outcomes you desire. Observe how you look and feel in your new role. Feel the joy, excitement and stimulation that the character in your mind’s eye must be experiencing. Let your imagination run wild and free. Do not allow any of your old fears to contaminate your creation. Know that there are no limitations in this dimension. There is no lack and no shortage of anything in this dimension. Then open your eyes and start acting according to your new script. You will be amazed if you repeat this exercise for a few days how you will begin to manifest things, experiences and breakthroughs that you never thought possible.
Please feel free to question me on this technique.
I am now going to share with you something that very few authors shared with their readers before. Many of the so-called gurus and world renown speakers that wrote a lot more books than me fail to share the ultimate tool with their readers and audiences. It can be ignorance or a lack of insight that cause this oversight or it can even be that they want their readers and audiences to remain reliant on them because it is good for business. Look at the graph of the inner and outer or perfect self before you continue reading my prescription. You will notice that you have the perfect self at your core that is in turn layered by you false (imposter) self. You were pure perfect self at birth. Look at the characteristics that you were programmed with. Now look at the outer layer that envelope your perfect self and study the various characteristics depicted in this layer. You are an extension of God on your arrival, but get exposed to those that either out of habit or fear feels that you need to be domesticated so you can one day like them fit into society. You are conditioned by these enthusiastic programmers with a pain and pleasure method. When you acted as prescribed you were praised and when you fell short of their requirements you were punished physically or mentally. You gradually concluded that you are this defective false self that daily fall short of the hundred and one rules and regulations that they hammered into you. It did not take them long to get you to forget who you are and where you came from. Try as you may you continuously fell short of the requirements. Read the characteristics again and you will see with what flawed perceptions you were left to take on the world. It is impossible for you to improve the false self or the impostor The impostor cannot become the perfect self. You can read your holy book and pray until you wear out your knees my friend. You can go to the so-called gurus that claim that they can miraculously transform the soiled and defective false self daily. You might for relative short periods experience an improvement, but will discover that the old false self program will kick in the moment you stop fighting and praying. I am going to state this again. You cannot transform or modify the false self. The false self is not alive like the true self and connected to God. The false self is like a virus that infiltrated your computer. It cannot perform at the level of the perfect self. All it can do is to disrupt all your good intentions with its poison when triggered. The solution is thus not to try and improve your false self or the false self of anybody else. You are attempting the impossible if you sustain this fallacy. Disappointment and guilt will follow you around like a stray dog for as long as you live. You also do not need a savoir my friend. Your real self is already an extension of God and the false self with its pathetic history is nothing more than defective software. Your biggest day since your birth is the day that you grasp what I am sharing with you here. The day you grasp this extremely important lesson is the day that you wake up to you full potential.
It was to cloudy to see the 600m drop off. 10 people fell off that day, mainly Italians… A few tourbus guides were pushing… Anyway. Preikestolen is in the south of Norway, Lysefjord. It is a few hours hike towards this place. Below there is a parking place which is crowded with tourists in summer time. So if you want to see Preikestolen for your self, not shared with hundreds of other tourists, it might be a good idea to start rather early (or come in winter). One last thing: don’t go up there when it is cloudy or raining. Because then you won’t see this incredible view.
This one word of one syllable, this little four-letter word causes so much trouble and prompts so many people to ask questions of its nature and its hold on us. Most questions about fear have to do with getting rid of it, overcoming it, fighting it, and last but not least, being free of it.
the same time it would seem that we have a love/hate relationship with this demon, for while we plead to be rid of it, we flock to the theatre to watch movies that would awaken the beast and make us its victim. We jump on roller coasters and other mechanical creatures that would seemingly spin, toss, and throw us to our death, only to stop short of a successful execution of the crime. This, we pay for, line up impatiently for, and anticipate with excitement. Clearly we owe ourselves an explanation!
Let’s start at the beginning.
There are some fears that, without them in our experience, we would probably live much shorter lives. The fear of jumping over a cliff, the fear of walking up to a lion and saying hi, or the fear of sticking one’s hand in a fire. These would seem to be fears that make sense, that actually help us by keeping us from doing things that would ultimately kill us. We can in fact be pleased that these fears are there to save us. Even the most trouble-ridden person would not want to rid herself or himself of this useful emotion.
These fears were nature’s way of keeping us alive. Our brain, like the brain of most animals, developed the capacity to ‘look around’ at the world around us and conclude that certain things out there were harmful to us. Our minds also figured out that some of these things could hurt us before we could stop to think of what we should do in the situation. The use of the emotion fear had the advantage of causing you to act, without having to stop and think. This was clearly a “good” thing for us.
Obviously, when most people say that they want to get rid of a fear, they are almost always talking about a fear that exists in them that is irrational. By irrational we mean that the consequences of doing the action that one is afraid of would not result in any physical harm. For example, speaking in public is a fear that is so strong in so many people that most rate it above death as something to fear. Yet standing up in class to give a book report, or reporting on your progress in a business meeting has, to my knowledge, never caused someone to die. To those who fear public speaking, however, it would seem that this bit of information hasn’t reached their ears.
So far then we have mentioned the fears that are ‘natural’ and healthy for us to have, those fears that we actively seek and would best be called “thrills”, and those fears that make no sense to us in a physical way, but seem to have considerable control on our behaviour.
Let’s continue with the thrill, or exciting fear for a moment, because it is important to understand what is happening here and how it relates to irrational fear. What happens when you go on a roller coaster, or you go to the movies and watch the latest horror movie? Well even before you go, you know that the fear you will experience is a fear that is safe. You know you won’t die, you won’t break anything, and that you will come out of it safely. That is important knowledge. It means that you can experience a fear and come out of it laughing. You know that you will win, you will be victorious. No one else needs to be aware of your relationship with the fear, and so this fear, we could say, is a personal fear. Now of course if you were to get on the roller coaster because of a dare, that would be different.
When Fears involve “others”
Now let’s get to the fears that most people are talking about. Those fears that we have that always seem to involve what other people might think, what they might do, what they might say, and what they might ‘discover’ about us. Those are fears that slow and shut people down. (note that I am not talking about phobias in this article, because phobias are a different thing altogether.)
So what kind of things are people most afraid of?
Fear of public speaking Ridicule Being laughed at Looking stupid Being different Being the same and so on…
The common denominator in these kinds of fears is that in involves the participation of others, whether real or imagined. So looking stupid, being different, being laughed at; these kinds of fears affects us because of the way we believe that others will think of us, or react to us. Most importantly, it isn’t even the fear of what others will think that causes the fear, it is the way we will feel, if someone thinks of us in an unfavourable light. In other words:
You hate the feeling of feeling stupid more than you hate having someone think of you as stupid!
No one has ever asked me to help them to not care if someone thinks they are stupid. No one has ever asked me to help them not care about what others think of them if they were to give a speech. What they have asked for is help in getting rid of the emotion associated with the event. In other words, the objective is to not ‘feel’ afraid.
Once you understand that in all cases of irrational fear, it is the feeling of feeling fear that is our curse. So too, is the feeling of being stupid, useless, unworthy, guilty, and all those nasty feelings that cause us to cringe.
These feelings control us in very powerful ways because they affect so much of our behaviour. Before you think less of yourself for being a ‘victim’ of these feelings, you need to know that these feelings were created in the mind for the exact same reason that we have the fear of jumping off the cliff. Although the cliff meant real danger and the idea that someone would think of us as stupid is not a danger at all, the process that caused both the emotion of fear, and the feelings we don’t like were both created with the goal of protection.
It would take far too much space than that allotted in this article to attempt to explain how the mind treated real peril, and opinions of others in the same way. I wrote the book “Through the Door!” : A Journey to the Self, in order to make sense of this whole process. Suffice it to say that these feelings are related to the creation of Self-images. Self-images occurred much later in our human development as we evolved as a species. Being a ‘new’ development the mind used its old familiar ways to deal with these new self-images, and these uncomfortable feelings were the result of the way our mind processed the new information.
So what does this all mean?
It means that there is a part of your mind that really believes that public speaking is a dangerous thing to do! As such, it also means that the feeling of fear that you get that keeps you from public speaking is not stupid, nor does it mean that there is something wrong with you for feeling the fear. Because of this, one of the first things you should do is to stop thinking of yourself in any negative way because you have these fears and feelings. It is totally natural, and even though there are some people that don’t have the same fears as you, they most assuredly have their own.
The Hard Easy Part
Maybe by now you are starting to realize that if the fear is something that your mind is doing in an attempt to protect you from a perceived danger, than the fear isn’t something that may just go away on its own. You’re right. The fear wants to protect you so it will always try to do its job. Then how do we get over our fears? That’s the hard easy part. What you must do is easy. If your fear is, for example, speaking in public, than the solution is to join a Toastmaster’s group in your area, and start giving speeches! Before you start yelling at me through this article, let me say that I know that you are saying something such as, “What the hell are you talking about Phil, I wanted to find out how to get over the fear of doing it and your telling me to just do it!” Well, yes I am. You see, if you have learned to feel fear about doing something where the fear seems irrational, than the only way you can start to diminish the feeling of fear is by doing the thing you are afraid of so that your mind can learn that it isn’t harmful after all! I know you would like a shortcut that doesn’t involve actually doing the thing you are afraid of before you can get rid of the fear, but it doesn’t work like that.
Here is what you have the capacity to do. You can talk to yourself. You can tell yourself that, in spite of being afraid to, say, speak in public, you know that no harm will come to you. You can tell yourself that the experience won’t kill you, and you will probably learn something from it. You can tell yourself that you know that in spite of all these words, that the fear will still come and you will be nervous as hell. What you can tell yourself is that in spite of the fear, you will do it anyway because it is important to you to do it. So rather than waiting for the fear to go away, which it won’t, you won’t let the fear ruin your life.
Some clever individual came up with a clever acronym for fear:
False Evidence Appearing Real.
There is so much truth in the phrase, for it tells us that the conclusion was reached from evidence, and that evidence was untrue. It also gives us the hint that if it is evidence that is required, than that is something we can provide by going right past our fears and doing the action anyway. In this way we can provide the evidence necessary to modify our minds response to things that we would really love to be able to do, say, and experience.
Everyday you make a thousand choices. You choose what to wear, where to go, who to meet, what to eat and what to do. MOST IMPORTANT OF ALL, YOU decide WHAT TO THINK. One thing is sure and that is that your day will not be better than your thoughts. ...................
Just close your eyes for a moment and see if you can visualise this open toolbox and if you can see the hundreds of tools that are neatly placed in this toolbox. Now look if you can see the maker’s name on these tools. The creator of these tools (thoughts and perceptions) is you. You created thousands of thoughts and perceptions (tools) about everything since your childhood. ..................
When confronted with any situation or problem you reach into this toolbox and take out what you think the most appropriate tool would be and then attempt to fix the problem. It is estimated that your mind thinks at least 2,500 thoughts an hour. Every thought that you think is a tool (perception) that you have that you imagine would work best under specific circumstances. This thought process continues day and night and will do so for the rest of your life. .....................................
I am convinced that we think ourselves to a standstill. We never stop playing with these tools in our toolbox and can hardly ever really relax for a while. If we are not faced with a problem or task that needs completion we still continue to take out these tools and mentally rehears and contemplate how we will use them should something that we fear become a reality. ............................
We are forever thinking and scheming and never become still and tranquil inside. Our bodies might seem relaxed, but deep inside our heads this thought process continues churning around. What I am most worried about is that most of the tools that you have in your toolbox are very old and outdated. .......................
Many of the opportunities, problems and obstructions that you face daily cannot be repaired while you are using old and outdated tools. If you take a modern mechanic’s toolbox and you place the toolbox of a mechanic of fifty years ago next to it you will find that there are major discrepancies. When you are confronted with something that needs repair and you do not have the right tool for the task at hand it can be very frustrating. We usually improvise and try using some other tools and hope that it will also get the job done. ........................
When you are faced with a problem you need to select the right tool for the task at hand. If you do not have the tool in your toolbox it can complicate your life. What most people seem to ignore is that it is sometimes better not to reach for your toolbox when faced with a problem. Sometimes you need time to pass or need to leave the problem with its rightful owner. How well you use your tools is usually reflected in the world you see around you. What would you do if you were faced with any or all of the following? .........................
You get a flat tire on your way to an important customer or meeting. You can fall apart, develop a migraine and think that life is against you or you can take out the right tools (patience and reality) and take care of the problem in a relaxed manner. ........................
You have been working on the computer for hours and suddenly lose all your work. You can drop dead with a heart attack; think that God hates you or you can take out the right tool (sanity and reality) and begin over and this time remember to make a backup of your work. ....................
A lover or wife possibly cheated on you. You can go crazy and get an assassin to take out the potential threat to your relationship, think that you are a failure or you can take out the right tool (no fear of loss) and get on with your life. .......................
When you have the right tools in your toolbox it makes life a lot easier. The choices we make are vital in our lives. The more quality choices we make during any given day the higher the probability of success and peace of mind. ................
I suggest that you equip your toolbox with the best tools you can lay your hands on. It is important to upgrade if you discover that one of your tools are outdated or that a more modern version is available. How would you react if your TV packed up and a technician that obviously knows very little about electronics arrived at your house with only a sledgehammer and a few other primitive tools in his toolbox? I am sure that you will send him away and find someone better qualified and equipped for the task. .....................
You might sometimes be like this incompetent and poorly equipped technician indicated above if you do not often update your tools (thoughts) in your toolbox. You can also have all the right tools in your toolbox and never use them because you are afraid that you might make a mistake. ..................
You must remember that happiness and success is always just one thought (tool) away. You should remember when you find it difficult to cope with something that one new tool (thought) could change your life. One fresh thought and one new idea can change your life from pain and suffering to success and peace of mind. ........................
You are today what you were programmed with yesterday. The choices that you make on a moment-to-moment basis decide your fate and future. You can never feel or perform better than the ongoing thoughts and feelings that you allow to occupy your mind! .......................
The mistake we make is that most of us live our lives on a reactive basis. We start and complete our day in a reactive state of being. Something comes to our attention via our five senses or via a thought in our mind. We automatically slip into the “role” that we created for ourselves many moons ago. We act, react and experience the same feelings and emotions that we embedded with our scrip at its inception. We do exactly the same when new stimuli push the previous “drama” off the stage in our minds. We sustain this reactive mode of thinking until we finally go to bed at night. Most of our days are made up of a tapestry of “roles” that we played in our own colorful way. It is important to understand that nothing is going to change until we do something different. We cannot repeat the same old recipes and expect a different outcome. ....................
You can use the “Portable Life Skills Wisdom” book to develop a range of appropriate scripts that you can use when you are faced with a problem or project that need your attention. You will if you apply the scripts in this book find that you no longer run your life on a reactive basis. The new scripts will help you to live your life in the moment. You will become more realistic. You will treat each event on its own merit. How do you do this? ......................
The Process ....................
